As the Ice Team is preparing the ice for our 2023 curling season, preparations are also
ongoing for our 2023 Learn to Curl (L2C) program. This program has been a valuable resource
for giving skills to many of our new curlers and been a source of new members. The past 2 years
the request for participation in this program has been overwhelming and we are on track for another big year.
The program is scheduled for Nov. 19th and 26th and Dec. 3rd and 10 th from 1:30 – 3:30 pm.
However, it appears that we might need a second session on the dates above from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon
as we have in the past 2 years.
The L2C program is a success due to our volunteers. Again this year we will need
instructors, coaches, registration helpers and people who assist new curlers with equipment. If
you are able to assist with the program in any of the following areas, please respond to my email
below.
- Instructors – will take the lead in teaching a small group the basic skills of curling, understanding the skip signs or signals and the most basic strategy.
- Coaches – reinforce the skills being taught; assist in teaching if comfortable; move rocks; hold broom; etc., etc.
- Registration assistants – record names as curlers arrive for the first session; collect all signed forms or waivers or have curlers sign forms and waivers
- Equipment – help curlers get grippers and sliders; direct them to brooms and delivery sticks if required.
I would appreciate if you could indicate what duties you are comfortable volunteering for.
Although it is most efficient if volunteers can attend all 4 sessions, this is not always
possible. It would be helpful if you would indicate whether you can attend all sessions or
whether there are sessions that you are not able to attend. Also, if we need to add the
morning session, I need to know if you are available to volunteer only for the morning or
afternoon session or for whichever one you are needed for.
